I don’t think that’s the biggest threat to democracy, but this is too big a topic to get into here….

We can agree that Citizens United was detrimental, and that threat of rich people fleeing the country because of high taxes is a bogeyman.

I could not help but open an email with the subject “Peeing on Electric Fences”, and was very intrigued when I heard Will Roger’s name mentioned. I still don’t know anything about the Railroad Commission or Roland Sledge, but when I played the YouTube video about why Sledge chose Will Roger’s quote, I felt like Will’s words were only used as an opportunity to produce something sensational to go “viral”. Sledge’s “young and creative” staff found the quote in a Google search. And then I really felt manipulated when Sledge said the “Blagojevich” look alike, was just something that happened… “not planned”. Eugene, I too don’t have a clue why Blagojevich was referenced (except that it’s a name most people associate with corrupt politicians). But having been born and raised in Ft. Was Porter Steven’s grandmother or great grandmother’s last name? I thought Papa Jack and Aunt Sleepy’s mother’s name was Thorton. Regardless, this was a wonderful sentiment. I didn’t realize this was your coupled name/brand.

I don’t know the other nominees but this much I can say: Working for Brian Sharples is an honor and a privilege. I can also speak for all of the staff I work with. We trust his decisions and the vision he has. HomeAway will make a global positive difference for so many. All top honors should go to Brian without a doubt. He is a true leader with a vision who makes things happen. Kudos to Brian!

I love this story.

Right before I checked my email just now, while trying to organize my huge collection of materials and notes I’ve collected over the past 3 years, I came across the rubberbanded group of cards picked up at one of the last 4 RISE Austin’s I’ve attended.

“Find.” “Hone.” “Prove.” “Family Credo & Mission” Those are so much harder to pin down while you’re in the thick of life. I will make sure my girls know how important these values are to have in place before they start a family.

Although I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, I’m so very grateful I started using it in 2008. Sometimes I feel like that poor woman in “Catfish” with so many brands I’m nourishing, but they’re finally coming together.

Meh, business as usual. Especially after Citizens United.

I liked this from Rich’s final paragraph:

“Obama is talking the talk of the two Roosevelts, whose reformist zeal and political courage helped bring America back from the brink after the privileged plundered it in the Gilded Age and the Jazz Age. But if he is willing to take on those interests as forcefully as they did, he has yet to show it in his actions and governance.”

Besides, Eugene, as near as I can tell, you LOVE hanging out with the very rich and trying to get them to donate to causes you support. Maybe you prefer rich people who are younger and not afraid of gay people or saddled with sentimental memories of Jim Crow, but I suspect the political donors of the left are just as convinced that presidential elections are grand struggles for the soul of America and that the hoi polloi are being misled by the other side.
