Eugene, this blog reminds me of my April 2010 blog, (http://JDavisStudio.com/2010/04/life-of-meaning-chapter-2). Steven’s RISE Austin 2009 presentation made a big impact on my life, and helped me keep an eye on my destination; to discover what I wanted to do next. My then “life of meaning” was about to be naturally phased out when the younger of my two daughters was about to graduate from high school. It’s taken 3 years, but I do believe I’ve gathered the pieces and can start putting the puzzle together. When my journey felt particularly difficult, I’d find comfort by watching Steven’s video online. Even before the TedX presentation, I’d watch the one on the Acton website. Thanks for posting the TedX version!

You don’t know this, I only figured it out within the last year or so, but you and Steven have touched my life in a couple of ways:

#1. You two opened my (then 16 year old) daughter’s Far West Texas world when you graciously hosted the 2005 McCombs High School MEFA class for dinner at your house. Being accepted into the summer program was life changing for her. She’s now a Terry Scholar majoring in special education at UT.

#2. In 2009, serendipity put me in Austin at just the right time to discover RISE Austin where I was oh-so-blessed to have been at Steven’s “A life of Meaning” session. I still can’t believe my luck.

I can’t remember when or how I finally made the connection, but I want y’all to know how very grateful I am to you both.

Oh, those French! Last year they ban the burqa and now they officially declare Scientology a fraud. This is one reason the USA is better than France: we let all sorts wacko religions spring up and then make fun of them. (See South Park’s take downs of Scientology; there’s no equivalent of South Park in France, is there? In fact, some European countries make it illegal to make fun of religions, another thing we have avoided in the USA.)

I went to the only current Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, VA this last weekend with a dear DC/VA friend. The waiter was shocked that I’d been to the Austin base. He mentioned they were planning to expand into the area.

Agreed (bad taste). After years of supporting Komen in $, time and walking/running, I’ve already shifted a % of my contribution directly to Planned Parenthood in the name of my younger sister who died of breast cancer in 2008. The remainder will go to Austin’s Breast Cancer Resource Center http://www.bcrc.org/ in celebration of the survival and thriving life of my friend Beth.

What a relief.
Would have hated to stop sending donations but since we support Planned Parenthood we would have had to to help make up the gap.
But…..still leaves a bad taste.
