Happy July 4th!

(Community Matters) Every year our Aldridge Place neighborhood hosts a parade circling Hemphill Park.

Our friends the Renners, then the Coffins in the trucks following the neighborhood firetruck

Diversity on the Ballot

(Community Matters) Good gosh, we will have the first African American running for president and we could also have the first gay VP nominee on the other ticket – sex-tapes and recent engagements notwithstanding.

Nirvana

(Community Matters) An evening at Bill & Amy’s comes close. Enjoyed an exquisite and most scrumptious evening with them, their sons (Mike & Dan, in from San Francisco) and daughter-in-law, Amy, last night. Food, drink, family, conversation, laughter, a bit of prayer and a lemon rind-accented granny smith apple tart, its perfect crust glazed with apricot. There were no leftovers.

A Third Term for Karl Rove

(Community Matters) As Paul Krugman points out John McCain’s campaign is as much about a third Karl Rove term as it is a third George W. Bush term.

yeah, we really need more of either

Obama on FISA

(Community Matters) Says its much better than original bill offered and stand with the Senators who plan to strike the telecom immunity (title II) from the bill. here

I don’t know enough about the details of this bill. On the face, don’t like it nor BO’s support for it.

Irresponsible Journalism

(Community Matters) It’s irresponsible of the Associated Press to highlight racial profiling within today’s AAS article, “FBI may use race in terror profiling.” Though I haven’t spent enough time thinking about & discussing with others the entire program, including race as only one factor in a matrix of factors such as travel to terrorist regions and access to weapons, while technically meeting the definition, isn’t the racial profiling Americans have come to overwhelmingly object. We object to minority experiences of racial profiling such as license to stop someone of color simply for driving or walking through certain neighborhoods, or treating a person of color differently during inquiries by authorities.

Of course, the Bush Administration has lost the privilege of trust when it comes to protecting Americans’ liberties. And, we know better than to allow 43s DOJ ambiguous language. Nevertheless, editors would better contribute to important national security discussions if they helped avoid inflammatory language [contradiction of title acknowledged as a point].

Bunch of Wankers

(Community Matters) here

Hmm, won’t hear appeals when there’s exonerating DNA evidence nor when there’s strong evidence of collusion between prosecution and judge, but let’s deliberate on gestures of masturbation.

Websters

(Community Matters) One day, the picture next to Webster’s definition of nincompoop:

Texas Supreme Court

(Community Matters) I’m hoping a church will take the time to exorcise the demons from Tx S.Ct. Justice David “burn baby burn” Medina soon here

What’s burn baby burn about? here

Can we all just acknowledge the most embarrassing supreme court in the country – comparisons to the Olympics notwithstanding. In this case not laudable that they take VISA.

Dell Inc

(Community Matters) A strong buy recommendation here.
