Do Swing Voters Matter

(Community Matters) Andrew Sullivan posted a link to the LA Times article citing a study in which swing voters swayed a presidential election only once out of the last nine.

Nearly all year, I’ve been in conversations with a handful of friends who are “swing voters” (actually more like 1.5 handfuls). First, most are admittedly past Republican voters who acknowledge more of a social moderate position. Second, they all voted for Bush both times and don’t feel a need to reflect on the thoughtfulness that resulted in that decision. In a couple of instances, I feel that they resent and blame Democrats for not having convinced them otherwise.

I make mistakes often. I hope, and certainly try to, admit these mistakes as soon as they become evident. And, I try to evaluate what caused the mistake, rather than blame it on others. With all due respect, I hope my “swing voter” friends might do so as well.
