Voting Straight Party

(Community Matters) I don’t recall that I’ve ever done so before, but I did vote straight party this morning. It felt great voting for Barack Obama. And, despite projections, given D turnout in the primary race, we could in fact deliver Texas for Obama.

I went down the ticket to make sure I didn’t want to make an exception. Of course I stumbled on Lloyd Doggett. Despite my disappointment, I decided that I’d vote for Lloyd. I support him 80%+ of the time and respect his political philosophy. I just wish we could count on him to make courageous choices calling for leadership instead of fearing sound bites or positions that he’d have to defend in his next race.

Don’t forget to vote for the City Council propositions too. I highly recommend voting against Prop 2. Council has already passed an ordinance prohibiting future tax incentives to retail developments and the proposition would simply force us to go back on our word with the Domain and Robert Mueller developers even though they’ve lived up to their words and exceeded projected financial returns to the City of Austin.

Only downer about voting is the realization of how divided this country is today. I wouldn’t be as enthusiastic about Barack Obama if I truly didn’t believe he’ll be a president to all of us and that he’s the most qualified to help our country out of the financial and national security hole we’ve dug ourselves into.
