Rick Noriega

(Community Matters) Rick’s a Harvard Public Policy grad, an infantry veteran, a national guard, served in Afghanistan and a state representative. I’ve met with Rick a couple of times and like his politics. Had dinner with his rock star wife, Melissa, who’s a Houston City Councilman.

Elwyn Tinklenberg

(Community Matters) Please consider donating any amount to Elwyn Tinklenberg. It’s less about the amount than the statement of support for the man running against Minnesota’s US Rep Michelle Bachmann (R). Congressman Bachmann is the one who has called for investigations of Barack and others exhibiting un-American sentiments. Good gosh, another McCarthy. To GOP credit, they’ve dumped her as well.

Like I said, much less about the amount of money than the number of Americans from across the country donating to her Democratic opponent as a statement that this sort of hateful rhetoric will not be tolerated.
Mr. Tinklenberg is a former mayor and a transportation expert. More and donate here

Emma Carter Browning

(Community Matters) I noticed in the AAS that today is Mrs. Browning’s 98th birthday. I haven’t seen her in years, but she was my customer in the 80s when I was a banker at Texas Commerce Bank. She was tough and fun. A pilot since the 30s, Mrs. Browning owned Browning Aerial Service at the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. Happy Birthday, Mrs. Browning.

Crimes Against Obama Supporters

(Community Matters) I received this from a reporter friend:

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Sunday, 10-19-08, at approximately 9:30pm, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office received another criminal mischief call at 3011 Longhorn Trail which is also west of Wimberley. In this case, an automobile had the rear window smashed  and Obama political signs left in the back seat of the car along with a rock which is thought to be what was used to break the window.  The automobile also had the word “Obama” spray painted on the driver’s door.  The offenders  also tried to remove the Obama bumper sticker from the vehicle.

An investigation was immediately begun by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Detective Lenny Martinez began combing the area where the offenses occurred and developed information that led him to the identities of the offenders in both cases.

Sad really

Steven Robert Tomlinson

(Community Matters) Today is my husband’s birthday

Happy Birthday, Steven

We’d planned to see “Cyrano de Bergerac” at the Alley Theatre tonight. But, when I returned home from Llano earlier today, Steven announced he’d prefer to go to the reunion, then return home for a quiet evening alone. Most of the best of me is possible because of the love of (and my love for) this man.

Sepulvedas

(Community Matters) My family gathered for a reunion today at my parents farm. It’s the first reunion for all branches of the family going back to my great grandparents. And, though many weren’t able to join us, many were. Today was Steven’s birthday. Being here was what he most wanted.

my great grandparents, Teodosa & Leonides Sepulveda

My sister, Bridget and brother-in-law, Eric

We gather

there’s always lots of food at Sepulveda gatherings

my nephew, Shaun

all 300+ of us also took a photo

Juan was going to join us. Though, just before we were leaving, he got a call from Chicago. Both of us were bummed he couldn’t meet so many new family members. Juan’s father died in an auto accident when he was 1.5 yrs. old. Today would have been the first time to meet most of these family members. They were disappointed not to be meeting him too. They’ve been reading about him in the newspapers for a couple of months now, and many on my blog

Kent’s Birthday Llano
