Honoring Jeff Browning

(Community Matters) My good friend and EF colleague, Jeff Browning, will be honored at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce luncheon today as its Volunteer of the Year.

Jeff’s an Austin Ventures partner and a board member of the Entrepreneurs Foundation. He’s planted more trees at schools than just about anyone I know (I mean digging deep holes in rock and clay) as well as the genius behind our annual Austin Invitational which raises big money for EF community involvement programs – not to mention an all around nice guy with a great girlfriend. Well deserved, Jeff. See ya at lunch

Thanks

(Community Matters) Thanks for remembering

(sung to the chipmunks tune) all I want for my birthday are some sweet comments, some sweet comments are some sweet comments . . . . 🙂

Man & Woman Beaten in Warehouse District

(Community Matters) how the heck are a man & woman beaten on a Saturday night by 4 strangers (severly & apparently long enough) for broken leg, broken ankle and crushed hand and two passerbys who try to help also beaten. Admittedly, I haven’t been downtown late at night in ages but aren’t there police officers around on Saturday nights? Did victims know assailants? This in today’s AAS.

Tony/Asher, any chance of some investigative journalism on this? Something doesn’t add up.

HMMLTLS

(Community Matters) The Harvey Milk Memorial Last Tuesday Literary Society met last night. We’re starting our 15th year.

Robert Torian, Michael Mitchell, Steve Davis, Greg Chico

Sparse attendance last night – two members have adopted kids, another back in graduate school, another temporarily residing in NYC. In addition to our last selection, one of last night’s topics that even our younger recruits are getting long in the tooth. Thinking we’ll have to recruit a few youthful initiates.

Arrested for a Kiss on the Cheeks

(Community Matters) ah, yeah, right.  As if the sheriff and security guard would have thrown out a straight couple for kissing on the cheeks.  here

It wasn’t but a couple of years ago two gay men were threatened with arrest for kissing on the Capitol lawn.  This sort of discrimination is no longer allowed people – get it?

Prop 8 in California

(Community Matters) The California Supreme Court agreed to hear lawsuits against Prop 8.  Of course a referendum discriminating against a minority is illegal. It’ll be overturned.

A Threat

(Community Matters) Wow, with Sarah Palin & Joe the Plumber as thought leaders in the GOP, I’m really scared.

Come to think about it . . . . no, seriously, I am really scared.

Tom Daschle

(Community Matters) Pleased to read Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination.

Bill Bradley might make an excellent HHS Secretary
