(Community Matters) It’s 63F in Marfa this am, expected to reach 90F

Quintron & Miss Pussycat

Last night at Padre’s, Quintron & Miss Pussycat – way fun and saw tons of friends. Off to breakfast now with some – Glen & Leana

AMA Endorses Healthcare Reform

(Community Matters) As I think about it, I’m surprised the AMA’s endorsement doesn’t carry more weight with those concerned about healthcare reform, especially seniors.

The AMA has created its own fact check site http://www.ama-assn.org/go/reform. In their recent physician communication, they reaffirm their support for the House bills which deliver on their priorities:

  • Extending coverage to the uninsured
  • Making investments in the physician workforce
  • Providing long-term relief from Medicare’s flawed physician payment formula
  • Increasing the nation’s focus on preventive care and wellness initiatives
  • Simplifying administrative burdens for patients and physicians

The AMA notes that the public option is NOT socialized medical care and consider it consistent with their principles of pluralism, freedom of choice, freedom of physician practice, and universal access.

The AARP has a terrific piece about the disinformation being bandied about and on why it also supports reform:

update: I had it wrong: The AARP hasn’t endorsed a bill but supports reform

Germany’s New Banking Risk Management Standards

(Community Matters) Germany’s New Banking Risk Management Standards. . . . outlaw bonuses on short term incentives and require long term perspectives on the financial health of their financial institutions. This Financial Times article doesn’t go into enough details to evaluate specifics but I do love the principle.

Hamas As The More Moderate

(Community Matters) Of course not, but everything is relative. As it is honoring a ceasefire in Gaza and proclaiming it has no general opposition to the broader west, a new fringe forms.

A new fringe will always form. The test is whether or not they’ll be put down.

I would say their reported handling of the most recent Islamic radicals, the Soldiers of the Companions of God, is a good sign

Pirates, Mafia or a New Bermuda Triangle?

(Community Matters) I find it completely fascinating that a 4,000 ton ship can go “missing” after passing through the English Channel.

Reports of its sighting, masked gunmen boarding, disembarking, fly overs . . .

Clinton on DADT and DOMA

(Community Matters) Probably a tad bit revisionist but on a second hand basis I presonally know he truly wanted to end the ban on gays in the military and thought that could be a legacy of which to be proud.

his comments about what coverage did we provide, how successful were we in convincing Congress are spot on. The LGBT community can bitch all it wants about what Pres Obama is or isn’t doing. He can’t do it alone. He’d do all of it if we’d provide the cover by securing the votes in Congress. He will, we will but sidelines quarterbacking drives me batty, especially because I’m guilty more often than acceptable myself

Darn, We’re Found Out

(Community Matters)

“There’s a freight train coming and it’s heading right towards Christians, and it’s called the homosexual legal agenda — and it will run right over our constitutional rights unless we’re heard loud and clear,”

of course, this assumes that gays & lesbians aren’t Christians or that they’ve figured out our objectives

Montana Townhall

(Community Matters) We should all read the President’s words directly

More applause for the president as he says people shouldn’t have to be broke when they get sick. The present system too often works better for the insurance companies than it does for patients, he says. He gets big applause when he says he doesn’t want bureaucrats — from the government or the insurance industry — meddling in health care.
