Diversity

(Community Matters) a quote included in today’s AAS (insight section)

By diversity I don’t mean ACL or SXSW or twenty venues to watch some folksy punk alt emo hippy electronica band.

Brian
online commenter who said he recently moved to Austin from Dallas and likes his new town but as a person of color found less diversity here than the city prides itself for
This especially resonates given discussions on race relationships, diversity & economic opportunity earlier this week.

Stunning Meal

(Community Matters) . . . . and stunning company @ the home of our longtime, dear friends LaVada Jackson Steed & Jim SteedBarbara Vackar who also feels like a longtime friend b/c of all our close mutual friends, Brian Stranton, Margaret Keys, Joan Howard and Ray.

I’m still pondering some of the wonderful conversations, including why Steven and I can feel closer in age to some friends in their 60s and 70s than those in their 30s and 40s. Interesting situation I’ll be thinking of for a while.

Austin City Limits Festival

(Community Matters) Quick jaunt out to ACL. We checked it out and gave Shaun and Luke a ride.

Ran into lots of friends, though not into others we know where there and we’d intended to see. Light drizzle, early yet so crowd just building. Love, love, love all the homegrown vendors including Torchey Tacos, Hudson’s on the Bend, Aquarelle, PTerry, Salt Lick, Stubb’s, Amy’s and Snowie’s.

Shaun & Luke enjoyed the Festival for several hours yesterday, then to Stubbs for Sound Tribe Sector 9. Forget where else they are going tonight, but I’m only a willing taxi until midnight, after that it’s cabs 🙂

of course, ST LOVED this chicken coop

lots of smart folks rode their bikes

I must admit. I wish we’d allowed more time for enjoying ACL. We definitely will next year. Might even for a little while tomorrow – hmm B-52s at 2pm.

C3 Presents: Wow!
During the presidential campaign, the Barack Obama’s campaign became familiar with C3 when they swept in to organize the Auditorium Shores event. After that, they were by far the preferred large events production company – even organizing Grant Park on election night, the Lincoln Memorial concert during the inauguration and the non-Congressional controlled part of the Mall for the swearing-in. These guys are extraordinary – flawless attention to detail and execution of logistics. Proud these guys are Austin-based.
