(Community Matters) An overflowing fundraiser of Austin’s younger, happening entrepreneurial community last night for Jack McDonald. Organizers Bryan Jones, Mickey Milsap & Amanda Chiampi along with other members of their host committee: Amy Bryant, Sara Fox, Olga Garcia, Brett Hurt, Bryan Mennell, Emily Miller, Dave Shaw, Thom Singer & Stacy Zuinga pulled off the best showing of Austin’s high-tech community for a political event since Steve, Peter, et al in the 90s. I joined Jack there inbetween a Charles Duggan gathering at Westwood and AMOA’s Dolce Vita (wow, too many years since I’ve been to one – fantastic).
Jack had a great third quarter, raising $298k for a total of $932k raised to date. He led the country in fundraising by a nonincumbent during the 1st and 2nd quarters. Probably did so again in the 3rd if you exclude Rob Miller who’s challenging the “you lie” congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC). Jack’s running for LBJ’s seat, the 10th Congressional District. The incumbent (rather laid back, innocuous, though increasingly right-wing red meat baiter), Mike McCaul, the son-in-law of billionare Lowry Mays, only raised $230k, a huge chunck of that from PACs. He loaned himself $500k – certainly not too hard when your wife’s daddy *gives you* $50mm. Part of the $230k he raised when Mr. Mays flew in one of his employees for son-in-law’s political fundraiser – Rush Limbaugh.
