HMMLS

(Community Matters) Hosted dinner for the Harvey Milk Memorial Literary Society last night – or the members in town anyhow: Robert Torian, Gene Brenek, Jim Amick and Chris Long. Stiff, by Mary Roach received surprisingly high ratings. I didn’t get beyond page 23 because of the subject matter. Our next selection, Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol.

Fees on Prepaid Cards

(Community Matters) This article is concerning. I’ve always heard these companies talk in the context of helping the unbanked. The examples cited here would suggest feeding on the unbanked.

What the hell is going on in this country when our financial institutions are saved by taxpayers and some are simultaneously fleecing the most vulnerable?

FTC Rules for Bloggers

(Community Matters) Glad to see them. New rules coming out requiring bloggers to disclose receipt of gifts or compensation related to reviews and endorsements.

I’d love to see the FEC and TX Secretary of State move forward with similar rules for bloggers paid by campaigns, even if ostensibly for a job other than the blogging.

Pet Shop Boys – It’s Alright

(Community Matters) I’ve always loved this song. And, I love that they’ve remixed it to remind us that we don’t really *want* war anywhere.
