(Community Matters) Flew up to join Suzanne Deal Booth at the American Academy in Rome’s trustee festivities, including their annual gala, the McKim Medal Gala. Miuccia Prada received this year’s award.
Miuccia Prada, pardon my unsteady hand; she is lovely
w/ Suzanne
The event was held at their annex property overlooking the original Academy which is just as luscious an oasis at the top of Trastevere
The annex estate is used for Academy events and I believed rented for weddings and other social gatherings. The gardens are named for Mercedes Bass, a trustee and major benefactor. Snooping around the estate house prior to the event (Suzanne & I were there early), I accidentally tried entering the guest suites, interrupting Mercedes still prepping for the event.
through the trees is the official Academy building where fellows meet, even reside – hmm, a fellowship in Rome . . . do I know any deserving artists? hmm . . . 🙂
after the dinner, dessert, drinks and coffee on the grounds
then, while most went to their palacios and hill top hotel suites, I returned to the bottom of Trastevere where I stayed at Casa San Giuseppe, a hotel I recommend for more modest budgets. It’s well located, quite nice and affordable.
