Falcon Lake

(Community Matters) It could be time for  black helicopters and special forces to teach the thugs to never, ever again screw with folks on our side.

Marfa Public Radio

(Community Matters) pulling together my MPR show for next Tuesday.  I’m interviewing Mayor Bill White, then his daughter Elena.  Hoping Gov. Perry will agree to a 5 to 10 minute interview as well – have a call into his press staff.  Working on DNC and RNC representation too.  My objective is informational & insider perspective for listeners interested in either side of the aisle.

Those interested can tune in on Tuesday at 10am at FM 93.5 from Alpine, Marfa or Ft Davis, or online streaming at http://www.marfapublicradio.org/

(Community Matters) sorta reentering the world of the living today, though still running a fever.  Not sure what had/have but I took a flu shot a couple weeks ago.  When caught in the rain in DC, I thought, oh no, don’t let me get sick.

Missed out on the ACL weekend, though my nephew and his girlfriend loved it and our vip tickets.  Missed seeing so many friends who’d gathered there and at parties after.  Returning to the world but taking it easy today since don’t want to get anyone else sick.  Marfa this weekend

Dumbfounded

(Community Matters) for a few minutes I was completely dumbfounded by misreading this statement:

HuffPost Pollster’s analysis of the race shows O’Donnell trailing Democrat Chris Coons by double digit margins.

I misread the statement, interpreting it as O’Donnell had a double digit lead in the Delaware race for US Senate.  In those few minutes, I thought, OMG, I know folks from DE are smart & educated.  If they are voting for this woman, what’s wrong with this country.  Thankfully, I clicked through to the previous story and saw the graph, clearing up the matter.  Though, for a minute . . .

Silverton Partners Open House

(Community Matters) Bill Wood, Morgan Flager and now Kip McClanahan from  Silverton Partners always have one of the most anticipated events of the year.  Tonight included everyone – especially entertainment by Alejandro Escovedo.

Steven and I also enjoyed connecting with Kim & Kyle Hughes, Bill & Cindi Bock, Mike Maples, Necip Sayiner, Shawn Bose, Justin Petro, Andy & Karen White, Jason Black, Zach Lynde, Phil & Lauren Siegel, Rodney Gibbs, Tommy Daevenport, Mike Turner and lots others

Scary

(Community Matters) from my neighbors . . . and we’ve never had any issues in Aldridge Place.  Steven’s always on to me about not locking the house, about leaving doors and windows open.  Okay, I’m convinced and am engaging the alarm system

Came home from grocery shopping.  Brought bags in.  Left front door open b’cause all hands were busy w/ bags and purse.

Dropped purse in living room recliner.  Took bags to kitchen, set them down, put refrigerator and freezer items away.  Went back to living room for purse.  It was gone.  Never heard anything.  At all.

Called police.  They reported more than one such occurrences.  Including those where folks were followed home from grocery stores.  And those where purses near a window were spirited away.  I was lucky.  Purse (minus cash only) was discovered somewhere along Waller Creek.

Have also experienced a break-in years ago where (I truly believe) the workmen at the property separated from mine by my fence were the perpetrators.  The fence is tall.  Gates were locked.  Back door and storm door were locked.  But burglars gained access anyway.  Very easy.  I left at same time every day.  Never returned til late in the evening.  So.  Climb over fence, yank storm door open, break glass pane in door proper, and enter.  With no danger of detection.

Happy Birthday to a very dear friend. Posted from my blackberry

David Grossman

(Community Matters) reading George Packer’s profile of Israeli author David Grossman in 9/27 New Yorker. I had the privilege of breakfast w/ Grossman in Jerusalem a couple of years ago. He’s an extraordinary man, one of Israel’s top, most famous authors. I recommend the profile. Will try to link later. Posted from my blackberry
