Bastille Day

(Community Matters) Can’t believe I didn’t take pictures – should have at least of the food. Good gosh, masses of food, about half of it vegan.

Of course my favorite 4yo and 6yo girls strolling up the sidewalk with homemade almond croissants (sporting a new big girl dress and pretty fancy ear rings, respectively) were my favorite guests. Ivy & Lily even brought their parents along, Leigh & Charles Christie.

Beth Broderick whipped up a vegan curried carrot dip and a lemon potato salad and asparagus vinaigrette.  She sorta does that in between movie shoots and writing columns for the Huffington Post. Not sure if writer/actor Dennis Bailey acts as her sous chef but he did join us, bringing me the latest greatest copy of his new play which is being workshopped in Austin in November.  Maybe  some unanticipated synergies since they huddled with Graham Reynolds and Shawn Sides much of the night.

Additional family members including Melissa Henderson, Drew Valcourt & Milinda Mitchell, Tana & Joe Christie, Richard Hartgrove & Gary Cooper, Ingrid Johannsen & Mitch Berman, Jill McRae & Stephen Yelenosky, Ann Clark (talk about intimidating a cook when the accomplished French cooking teacher and cook book author attends), rats I know I’m forgetting some of our guests but I’ll just have to update later.

What did I make? Salad “nicoise” with lentils du puy (vegan), summer vegetable tian (Vegan), herbs de provence pan roasted chicken over a “Summer Cassoulet” of spinach and butter beans with lemon and olive oil. Well, truth be told, it’s been really busy this week and why try improving on perfection. Meg Schwartz of SpoonAndCo prepared my dishes.
