(Community Matters) Pass this jobs bill right away. . . . The people who hire us to work for them, they don’t have the luxury of waiting 14 months (until the next national election).
It appears everyone from both sides of the aisle stood up in agreement for the last phrase, except most obviously Speaker Boehner.
The people of this country work hard to meet their responsibilities. The question tonight is whether we’ll meet ours. The question is whether, in the face of an ongoing national crisis, we can stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy.
The plan is big and bold. Yet, we’ve been here before . . . if BHO likes it, if it helps the economy during his term, some turn hide, even on their own ideas. We shall see – will Congress place the interests of out-of-work Americans, businesses needing consumer sales & states needing aid ahead of Nov 2012? What the President laid out, these proposals, have previously enjoyed bipartisan support. There is not much controversial – cuts taxes, creates jobs, fixes broken infrastructure, and is to be paid for through even more aggressive deficit reduction.
But, damn . . . there are already signs of the opposition’s plan in formation. They’ll hijack the super committee’s choices – smuggle defense out of the mix and try slashing even more of the flesh off government by and for the people. Cynical? You bet, and ready to be proven wrong. Our President has to stand strong on this – just like his speech – and commit to his challenge that they approve these lifelines to the people and states they are hired to protect.
For too many Americans, this is a great depression.
