(Community Matters) responding to a political posting about the threat of government:
I believe the threat is increasingly non-entrepreneurial, multinational corporations which manipulate governments and buy politicians, ensuring their lowest tax burden & regulation to slough off costs to the public (ie, externalities).
Corporations are formed under state laws as a way to limit liability and encourage the pooling of capital. Notwithstanding the ridiculous S Ct opinion (Citizens United), the people at the state level grant the right for corps to exists and can take away those rights. We can also impose behavior standards and higher tax burdens as conditions.
Corporate flight? Let’s see if corporate ceos, their boards and all their families want to cash in their US citizenship for cheaper tax rates and third world regulations. Posted from my blackberry – tiny little keys. Please forgive typos.
I don’t think that’s the biggest threat to democracy, but this is too big a topic to get into here….
We can agree that Citizens United was detrimental, and that threat of rich people fleeing the country because of high taxes is a bogeyman.
