Clybourne Park

(Community Matters) The first act was among the best theater I’ve ever seen. The second act was good but a bit shallow. From our conversation after, realizing it might have been intentionally dumbed down. Steven felt very uncomfortable about the contemporary racial tension portrayed; I felt they sugar coated.

Tony Award- Best Play: A white community in 1950’s Chicago frets about the African-American family about to move in. Fast-forward to the present day, and the same house represents very different demographics. Climbing through the looking-glass of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun, these contemporary characters explode into caustic comedy to reveal how far our ideas of race and gentrification have changed – or have they?

Hughes-Eldridge Wedding

(Community Matters) While likely the social event of the season, the gathering was intimate, generous and real. Chris & Sean expressed their love for each other with such eloquence and vulnerability that it rained silent humility (among an otherwise tough crowd).

Less than 400 guests, obviously curated and placed lovingly and thoughtfully at tables, breaking up friends and introducing those who should know each other.  The Cipriani Wall Street event was both tastefully opulent and warm.

(Community Matters) Arrived NY on the United p.s. Service flight from SF – wow. It’s a fantastic airplane – exceptional caring and feeding, whether first, business or economy plus class (no reg economy).

Immediately upon arrival met up with Brent and his new boyfriend, Noah Gillespie. Super having dinner with those two. We like Noah – a to-be third year law student at George Washington interning in NY for the summer with a masters in econometrics. gotta watch those economists. Brent seems happy and looks fit. So nice to see him after too many months. He’s interning in DC and spending lots of time in NYC

Salt Spring Island

(Community Matters) One of our favorite places in the world – Salt Spring Island, British Columbia

Wish it was possible to swing up to Salt Spring Island for Michele’s book signing tonight which two dear friends are catering (well then also for Saturday market), while still making it to NY for the wedding tomorrow #HousesMadeOfWood&Light

@PatrickGaspard

(Community Matters) Why do I suspect this was meant as a DM to @Messina2012?

@PatrickGaspard: it’s constitutional. Bitches

@PatrickGaspard: I let my scotus excitement get the better of me. In all seriousness, this is an important moment in improving the lives of all Americans.

Politically

(Community Matters) Playbook Facts of Life: “Obama looks like a winner, and you can’t underestimate the subtle impact that has on casual voters. The attack on Obama that has tested best with focus groups – incompetent, in over his head – is now in tatters.”

More Conservative Perspectives

Majority opinion in HCR is a conservative opinion – Chief Justice Roberts

The Commerce Clause exists to determine where the proper scope of federal power ends and state power begins.
