Dinner

(Community Matters) Last night’s dinner at our house included 23 Church of Christ  adult members who wanted to talk about homosexuality and their religion. Steven formerly attended their church; he left in the mid 1980s after they were unable to reconcile with his sexual orientation. Coincidentally, I organized a small group of LGBT leaders in 1992 and we spoke with a similar group from this parish, in the home of one of last night’s guests.

Lovely time, lovely people and honest conversation. Of course, those who attended are (or are leaning toward) supporting equality for the LGBT community. We broke bread, shared stories and developed greater respect for each other and each others’ perspectives. A warm and affirming evening.

Marfa Public Radio & Fusebox

(Community Matters) Love that Marfa Public Radio sponsored Fusebox Festival’s Late Night Venue (Seaholm) last year. Hmmm, wonder what the partnership might be this year . . . could be Marfa Public Radio + the New 91.3 FM (KXWT in Midland/Odessa) + Fusebox 2012

Byzantine Fresco Chapel

(Community Matters) Off to Houston for one last tour of Dominique de Menil’s Byzantine Fresco Chapel which her son designed to house thirteenth-century Byzantine frescoes originally from small chapel in Lysi, Cyprus. The works will be returned to the Greek Orthodox Church in Cyprus at the end of the month.

Not sure my nephew and niece are gonna get this, but I’m insisting they join me – one day they’ll at least remember seeing the beautiful space & works.
