(Community Matters) Princeton Professor Larry Bartels writes about his and others’ research showing that both Republican and Democratic legislators are “utterly unresponsive” to the opinions of the American poor and considers this civic inequality a real threat to democracy. here

Yes, growing inequality is the biggest problem in our society today, and part of the cause is government policies (e.g. higher tax rates for wages than for capital gains, subsidies for wealthy farmers, tax deductibility for mortgages and student loan interest, etc.) Unfortunately, too many self-styled liberals are more concerned with less important matters like what people in other countries think about America or in getting people to “pursue their passions.”
