(Community Matters) I love Thomas Friedman’s view that the best vice presidential running mate would be a financial wizard rather than a national security expert. Unfortunately, I believe he is right on about the financial perils we face. I absolutely don’t think it’s irreversible, and I do think Bush, Inc. has launched the decline of America and the loss of our super economic power status. Though, this decline can be reversed through leadership, policy and unfortunately, economic sacrifice until we retire our debt and reinvest in American infrastructure.

It's about community, entrepreneurs, politics, art . . and sometimes just silly fun . . . a slightly gay blog.Eugene Sepulveda
Love big West Texas skies, the unimpeded horizons of the coasts, Austin and my husband, the Rev. Dr. Steven Robert Tomlinson, with whom I’ve spent the last 24 years – nineteen years since we were married on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada. Then, married again at St. James Episcopal Church in Austin, TX on June 27, 2015.

I agree that the key issue is and should be “it’s the economy, stupid”. But I tend to doubt voters see any individual as a strong economic leader the way they see some as strong military leaders.>>As far as sacrifice, you’re right, but people aren’t going to want to hear that. Remember how furious liberals were with Bill Clinton when he first became president and decided that he was going to fight the deficit? They hated him for that. It worked, though, and the economy eventually started producing good jobs for ordinary people. But it took a few years. And the Republican leaders of that time (e.g. Bob Dole) were deficit hawks, unlike today’s Republicans.>>When Obama becomes president (fingers crossed) there will be tremendous pressure to increase federal spending in a host of areas. A lot of people now unfortunately see Obama as a savior and expect miracles – gain without pain. I just hope this Obama euphoria doesn’t produce irrational expectations and result in poor policy decisions over the next few years.
