(Community Matters) Reading this morning some speculate about loss of majorities in the House & Senate. I just don’t believe it.
It’d be one thing if it meant checks & balance. However leaders of the GOP have pledged to ensure Pres Obama’s failure rather than the best interests of Americans, they apologize to Wall Street & BP, consider Deep Water Horizon a natural disaster, and advocate tax cuts for the rich while withholding unemployment benefits from out of work Americans.
During the presidential elections, especially after the Oct financial meltdown, we knew there’d be hell to pay for whomever won given the free-falling economy. That’s ok, it was never about ensuring 2012 reelection.
There have been important accomplishments in healthcare reform, avoiding another Great Depression, financial regulatory reform, education funding, environmental regulation (which had been nearly nonexistent), LGBT equality, and in so many other areas.
And, yes, we must spur more economic activity, create more jobs. We’ve not done enough in these priorities. These elections should be about who can & how will we do just that. And, the American people should elect those who most convincingly argue that they will. Posted from my blackberry.
