(Community Matters) Yesterday was Brackenridge’s luncheon honoring Clarke Heidrick, a friend and force for good in Austin. Clarke is the founder of the hospital district, as well as current Chamber Chair, long time chair of the Shivers Cancer Foundation and has headed many other civic institutions.
Not sure how well Austinites know what a gem “Brack” is for Austin. Operated by Seton, Brack (opened 1884) is a Level 1 regional trauma center, for 75 years has served as a residency teaching site and now includes a recognized Brain & Spine Center. It’s at the center of regional efforts to establish a world-class medical center and medical school in Central Texas.
The Entrepreneurs Foundation and LIVESTRONG shared a table, joining us: Andy Miller, Michael Barnes, Paul Hurdlow, Marylou Adams, Amy Chronis, Chris Dammert, Lauren Hutton, Colin Walls and Ryan O’Donoghue.
Michael summarized the substantive points of the luncheon here – have to say I completely agree with the optimistic inevitability – thank you especially to Sen Kirk Watson. And, I enthusiastically noted Kirk’s inclusion of a comprehensive cancer center in his comments of the vision. I still have keep the framed Annie’s receipt (3/26/10) from the breakfast where I introduced Dr. Declan Fleming to Doug Ulman & Andy. Clarke was sitting at a nearby table and our next meeting included him. The group has expanded and recently assumed the comprehensive cancer care responsibilities for Sen Watson’s medical school working committee.
