Permaculture Institute Tour

(Community Matters) on Sunday, Steven and I flew to Brisbane (in Queensland), then drove down to the most northern part of New South Wales to The Channon. Our friend Theron Beaudreau is interning at the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia; we wanted to know more about this hyper-sustainable form of agricultural production. Theron and Steven serve on the board of Wheatsville Coop.

I especially loved the concept of a food forest, an eco system created where plants support each other. One maturing forest included mangoes, kumquats, bananas, perennial jams, sweet potatoes, dragon fruit and avocados

The father of permaculture was a Tassie by the name of Bill Mollison.Geoff Lawton runs this institute.

And, want to know more, possibly support, Theron’s & friends’ initiative in Austin, Community Cultivators, whichhelps individuals realize the abundant potential of community through the cultivation of ~ mind, body and soil”

Spent the night in Byron Bay – a surfers’ and beach goers’ “paradise”
