(Community Matters) received a blast email from Emmet & Lisa Fox (FINO & Asti) about a FINO cook who was evidently randomly attacked downtown. Scott will need rehabilitation and therapy. The restaurant is continuing his pay even while he’s recovering and they sent an email out to customers asking for contributions to help Scott pay medical costs. Scott Kaplan’s friends are uniting to help him pay for medical expenses from a recent attack.
On Saturday, January 21st, Scott was randomly assaulted in downtown Austin while walking to his car. The attacker struck him in the head and then left him. Police are still contacting witnesses and looking for the perpetrator.
Scott was rushed to the emergency room at Brackenridge Hospital. He has sustained injuries to his head, including a fractured skull and a broken bone around his eye. He has a major concussion and cannot remember what happened the night of the attack.
Scott is a talented and dedicated cook at Fino, a Mediterranean restaurant in Austin. Amid all of this chaos, he is stressed by the little things, like getting back to work so he can earn a living and do what he loves. But between lost wages and considerable medical expenses, Scott will soon face a financial burden he simply cannot handle alone. Physical recovery could take weeks, and in the meantime household bills will come due, and insurance will only cover a small amount of his hospital care. Anyone would struggle to get back on their feet without the help of friends, family, and community.
