(Community Matters) Great fun at last night’s Human Rights Campaign’s National Dinner in DC. Many thanks to my host and dear friend, Andy Tobias. And, enjoyed sharing his table with Tym Matusov, Patrick Gaspard, Jeffrey Lerner, Jamie Citron, Heather, Mark Perriello and Diego Sanchez.
enjoyed speaking with Cyndi Lauper backstage (she adores Pres O) and, of course, it was a total honor greeting President Obama again. Good conversation with Congressman Tammy Baldwin who’s running for the US Senate from Wisconsin. She’d be the first openly lesbian (or gay) US senator. Tough race but winnable.
The President gave a strong speech – I especially liked his rejoinder to the GOP candidates’ failure to speak up for the gay service member booed by the Republican debate audience. Of course, the list of administration’s accomplishments for LGBT equality is long (including the elimination of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell). President Obama restated his strong support for the repeal of DOMA, his solidarity in protecting LGBT youth from bullying, and our need to pass job creating legislation. full remarks
Lots of Austinites also at the event including Chris Long, Alisa Weldon, Lynn Yeldell, Kirk Rice, Todd Canon, Perry Heitman and Jonathan Pehl.
