(Community Matters) Amy & Steve Younkman hosted the out of town brunch for Sandi & Bob’s wedding. Steven and I noticed a lemonade stand while driving over, so of course had to enlist the kids in walking over.

(Community Matters) After being married at the Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan, Sandi Aitken and Bob Tomlinson (now Sandi & Bob Tomlinson, aka Aunt Sandi & Uncle Bob) had a civil ceremony & larger wedding reception last night at the Vista on Seward Hill.
Great evening since so many of our cousins, Steven’s parents, uncles and extended family were there – yet still intimate. Off to a brunch this am.

(Community Matters) As to the specific allegation which John-Michael Cortez is promoting on behalf of Lloyd Doggett that Joaquin Castro collaborated with the Republicans to create CD-35, that’s simply not true. Of course I called Joaquin the minute I read this.

(Community Matters) Lloyd Doggett’s surrogates are stepping up the lies and innuendo about my friend, Joaquin Castro. Joaquin won’t let this go unanswered.
I’d like you to watch a short video.
Vodpod videos no longer available.Joaquin Castro Responds to Lloyd’ Doggett’s Att…, posted with vodpod
It’s sad that Lloyd is more worried about keeping his job than standing for the principles we’ve long known him to champion.
Joaquin is worried about your job, worried about getting things done in Washington.
Lloyd’s behavior is the same desperate Washington-style politics that have gotten us where we are today. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these silly attacks have stepped up since Joaquin Castro outraised Lloyd by $100k in the 3rd quarter.
Conspiracy rumors about Joaquin working with Republicans are just some of the latest, negative, personal attacks. Yelling across the aisle doesn’t get anything done either. It’s time to elect a new generation of leaders. Congress is broken. It needs to be fixed.
Please share this video and help us get the truth out.

(Community Matters) Who the heck is UT Professor Jeremi Suri and why did the NYT give him so many column inches?
“The solution is simple; set clear priorities . . . three international goals . . . And reduce other commitments”
Really, ignore Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Palestine, all the Arab spring uprisings, Mexican drug violence and everything other than your list of three? Of course I realize the philosophical correctness of this but our government is dealing in the real world and doesn’t have the luxury of the ivory tower. Reduce our priorities and tighten our objectives? Certainly. And, it looks to me like we’re doing this every real chance we get.
Good gosh, Texas has had enough visible fumbles on the international stage the last few years. Posted from my blackberry

(Community Matters) I’m assuming it was a bureaucratic decision, while probably unintentional, it was a bad decision – closing the City Hall outdoor public space for “cleaning” during the middle of Occupy Wall Street/Occupy Austin demonstrations sends the wrong message.
I started writing this before I left Austin for DC. Likely city council has already overridden the bad decision.

(Community Matters) from Politico:
The Obama campaign announced in an email this morning that the president’s reelection effort and the Democratic National Committee raised a combined $70 million in the third quarter of the year:
— In the third fundraising quarter of this year, 606,027 people donated to this campaign — even more than gave in the record-breaking previous quarter.
— Those people gave more than 766,000 total donations — 98 percent of them $250 or less, at an average amount of $56. That’s more than twice as many donations than we had at this point in the historic 2008 campaign.
— We are focused on building infrastructure that will help us win in 2012. And each quarter we set a combined goal for the campaign and our allies at the Democratic National Committee. We far exceeded our goal of $55 million this quarter between the two organizations. Great work.
— Together, Obama for America and the DNC raised more than $70 million. And it all happened during a summer when the President was focused on doing the job he was elected to do — a summer when we had to cancel a series of fundraising events and ask everyone to dig a little deeper.
The Obama campaign raised $42.8 million on its own and the DNC took in $27.3 million, an Obama campaign official said. The total includes funds transferred from the Obama Victory Fund joint fundraising committee.
The announcement follows an $86 million second quarter for Obama and the DNC, and sets up the president to outraise by far the whole GOP field, combined, in back to back fundraising periods.

(Community Matters) Sorry dude, you swim in the swamp you’re gonna get slimmed by snakes. We know this play all too well in Texas – just look at the anti-non-Christian campaign played against our Tx House Speaker (not to mention Perry’s “Christian” prayer event in Houston)

(Community Matters) Lloyd’s just released his numbers. Not even counting the $40k seed money Joaquin loaned his campaign, Joaquin Castro outraised 16-year incumbent Congressman Lloyd Doggett by $100k.
