Steve Adler up by 21 points in Mayor’s Race

adler martinez(Community Matters)  The Austin Monitor commissioned an independent poll by the renowned Public Policy Polling group.

Steve leads in every demographic group other than tied among Austin Democrats and winning 40% of Hispanics’ support. And, I believe his support among both of these groups is strengthening since Mike’s silly 30-year reach back. I love what a friend at St James told me Saturday night, “if all Mike could find on Steve is something from 30 years ago & it wasn’t even about him, Steve must be a really good guy.”

We know Mike Martinez will go nuclear as a result of this poll. He’s already trying to divide East v West Austin, Hispanic, African American, Asian and White Austinites. Please support Steve’s campaign and vote for a new way forward.

The Austin Monitor story:

Monitor Poll: Adler’s lead over Martinez increasing

A poll commissioned by the Austin Monitor shows that 56 percent of voters said they would likely vote for mayoral candidate Steve Adler, compared to 35 percent who said they would vote for his runoff opponent, City Council Member Mike Martinez. Only 8 percent of those polled indicated that they were undecided in the mayoral contest.

The Best Lies are Half Truths

(Community Matters) After being slimmed by half truths in a speech on Friday, it occurred to me this must be in someone’s written playbook. We see the same practices coming out of Mike Martinez’s campaign – as if channeling Karl Rove combined with some Ted Cruz.
to set the record straight:

Steve Adler & I served on Pres. Obama’s National Finance Committee together. We both canvassed in other states for the President. Steve helped protect Democratic voters on election day. The claims that he’s a Republican supported by Rick Perry are tired & false, more Mike Martinez, mini-KarlRove, politics.

The “Mostly True” PolitiFact finding on the statement that 30 years ago Steve’s partner had a small retainer with what became a Koch pipeline. Steve was in law school when his future partner accepted this engagement, and his Steve’s only dealings with Koch brothers was suing them on behalf of a property owner. Steve’s acknowledged both. The worst lies are half truths. More mini-KarlRove w some TedCruz too. Jeez

Change Beats Status Quo

adler election night 1114

(Community Matters) Yesterday was historic. thanks to all my friends, colleagues and neighbors for participating in the elections. a guy previously unknown wins 37% of the vote for Austin mayor, his nearest opponent comes in at 30% after 8 years on the dais. Eight months just beat 8 years. Change is going to beat the status quo . . .  in 41 days – with your help. Steve Adler represents change.

I’m bummed about so many of the other races. And, I’m exceedingly proud of my friends who played such pivotal roles in those. History was not on our side. In my life time, no party of any 2nd term president has retained either house of Congress. And, the impact of this sweep is a political tsunami. Very good people, very good friends lost elections last night. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their sacrifices. And, good people won in other elections. Thanks to everyone who participates. It’s part of what makes this country great. xxoo

Top 10 Reasons Steve Adler #1: Caring, Successful & Committed

ADLER STEP 1(Community Matters) Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Austin’s Mayor

#1: Steve cares deeply about Austin & its residents, and Steve knows Austin can do better than the last 8 years. He’s got an impeccable track record of business, personal and civic success. He’s dedicated his adult life to helping others. Politicians who say it takes a politician to get things done have lost their way.

From 26th worst traffic to 4th worst traffic in the nation during the last 8 years; Cap Metro: decreased ridership, increased debt, increasing fares, suspending free rides for seniors & the disabled; wasting $2 billion on a wood-burning power plant environmentalists urged us not to build; wasting $1 billion on a new water treatment plant water conservationists urged us not to build; annually raising property taxes & fees and spiraling utility rates. . . AUSTIN CAN DO BETTER. Elect A NEW WAY FORWARD

Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Austin’s Mayor #6

Document2(Community Matters) Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Austin’s Mayor

#6 Steve Adler is a man of integrity who values people, above the line behavior & focuses on solving Austin’s problems. Steve’s primary opponent uses South Carolina Super PACs to spread lies and innuendo – regrettably, not uncharacteristic behavior. We’ve seen Mike’s contempt for anyone who challenges his position and against citizens and voters in emails made public through subpoena. Mike sorta means well but isn’t ready for the big chair.

post script. facts cited from AusChron: What a legacy, Martinez the first to bring super PAC money to a local Texas election*: What’s different in this case is the external “Super PAC” (IRS “527 organization”) enabled in the aftermath of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision to allow essentially unlimited “independent” spending. South Forward campaign ($10,000, at least) represents “the camel’s nose under the tent” of Texas campaign law. “It may not look like a big deal,” Wood said, “but it is a big deal, if they get away with it. … If they get away with it, everybody will be doing it.” *according to Attorney Buck Wood, an authority in these matters (he helped rewrite Texas campaign finance law in the Seventies).

Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Mayor of Austin – #7

adler rally aas(Community Matters) Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Austin’s Mayor

#7 It’s about Austin, not about the candidates. Steve isn’t seeking the job of mayor to realize a personal ambition. He’s stepping up to the plate, sacrificing his and his family’s monetary success to serve the city & citizens of Austin. . . because he believes Austin is headed in the wrong direction.

Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Mayor of Austin – #8

steve adler(Community Matters) Top Ten Reasons to Vote for Steve Adler for Austin’s Mayor

#8 – Steve knows how to define success. Under Mike Martinez’s leadership Capital Metro slashed free rides for seniors and the disabled and borrowed $35 million – all while ridership decreased. Mike Martinez calls this success.

Over the course of the last eight years–seven of which Martinez was on the Cap Metro Board–the transit agency went from zero dollars in debt to over $35 million, cost per trip has increased by 105 percent, and overall agency expenses have doubled.  For a transit agency to take on that level of debt and expenses, there would be the expectation that ridership would also have seen a dramatic increase.  But no, ridership today is actually down by 4 percent from its numbers in 2006.
