Flight

(Community Matters) Flight premieres in Austin on April 9 at Austin Lyric Opera. Written by British composer Jonathan Dove , it’s based on a true story about an Iranian refugee who lived at Charles de Gaulle airport for 18 years (literally a man without a country.

the review of this production in Pittsburg: Dove’s well-crafted score is tuneful, harmonically old-fashioned but complex in its rhythmic make up and colorful orchestration — especially notable for some ear-tingling pop-inspired percussive effects. There’s not a weak link in this production. It’s by far the best thing the Opera Center has done: an evening of total theater not to be missed.

Edition Peters: He is one of the only living composers able to write successful comic opera, to sustain a company through 150 performances of a single opera, or to captivate a million viewers with a single performance.
Delightful dinner at Tana & Joe Christie’s last night for Jonathan also w/ ST, Michael Mitchell, Carlos, Nicole, Trace and Nicolas. We’re looking forward to the opera next week and connecting Jonathan with friends in New York.
