(Community Matters) I’ve written about Hal McIntosh before. Besides Barbara & Carrie, he and his partner, Eric Varity, have become my two best friends on the Cape.
Hal’s got an exhibit at the library. The picture above and behind him is Stairway to Paradise. I’m seriously contemplating purchasing it. Though, part of me resists because I’d really like him to paint the North Truro Beach Club, which he purchased in the 1950’s by saving monies from the $10 portrait pictures he painted in P-Town for several summers.
Last night Hal told us Reggie Cabral convinced him to purchase the beach shack – which at the time had no running water, insulation of heat. He also told colorful stories about the times Ertha Kitt, Billy Holiday and other great singers and writers performed and hung out at Reggie’s famous Atlantic House (aka the A-House). Also how Reggie often traded art for bar tabs and how he came to collect an original Van Gough which hung behding the piano upstairs.
