(Community Matters) During conversations the last two days, I’ve been dumbfounded by these stories of violence & racial discrimination:
– watching two, young African American children intentionally run over, then backed over again in the 1960s in a small southern town. Driving to the next town to report this and being falsely placated
– an African American refused use of a gas station’s restrooms while immediately after an Anglo was welcomed, along the Texas-OK border in the last decade
– the term “restricted county,” meaning African Americans not welcome. Friends with confirmed reservations cancelled by management of a B&B when they inquire if the Arkansas county is still “restricted” – last year
