(Community Matters) Humility, Service, Love and Care – as in Care Communities. The height of a good charity event is when it oozes who and what the nonprofit is, what it does, and how it does it. And, there’s an even higher standard . . .when an evening’s awardee(s) also oozes the essence of an organization, its clients & its volunteers.
My dear friend (& former, long time crush) Jim Lommori was honored last night. He personifies humility, service, love and care. Austinites who want to help someone living with a terminal illness form teams and provide support – sometimes become dear friends, often times find themselves enriched in that way only obtainable during active selflessness.
Care Communities’ secret sauce is managing & inspiring the teams. Last night’s honorees inspire. Recognized for their service, we witnessed the power of humility as each accepted.
Also honored last night:
Rabbi Steven Folberg & Saundra Goldman Sally Mills Watkins
Rabbi Folberg & Saundra Goldman lead Temple Beth Israel. Sally Mills Watkins a long time, continuous volunteer. Libby Doggett wrote a moving tribute of Sally who ran Lloyd’s Senate office. Libby and Lloyd Doggett were at the event as sponsors – Lloyd was warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by the crowd. Last night, they were obviously there for Sally and as part of the community.
This year’s event chairs, the indomitable Thibodeau brothers – Craig, Kevin and Tommy. Of course Lew Aldridge and team showed up and supported in full force. Susan Ghertner in from San Antonio representing the HEB empire. I hadn’t seen Dara Gray and Magda Salazar in years. Douglas Plummer looking very dapper. Joyce Christian, Rudy Green, Judge Lora Livingston and other St. James family members filling a table. Tim Frantz now anchoring our northern edge at Cedar Park. Exec Director Carol Johnson, Outreach Director Roger Temme, Care Partner Mngr Liz Brown, Cindy Scott Cannon, Victoria Guiterrez, Michael Mitchell, Michael Barnes, Robert Torian, Amanda Chiampi, Jason Laufenberg, Donna & Monte Williams, Chris Long, David Smith . . . might be easier to say who wasn’t there, honoring those being recognized and supporting the mission of humility, service, love and care for those in most need.
