Bakers & Pastries

(Community Matters) I’m stumbling on bakers and pastries lately. Ever had the extraordinary pastries at Eastside Showroom, Second Bar + Kitchen or Dai Due’s booth at the Republic Plaza Farmer’s Market? They are Barrie Cullinan’s who’s featured in the summer issue of Edible Austin. Her almond croissants really are to die for.

Tiny Pies – I just met Amanda Wadsworth while stopping by Avenue B Grocery & Market. Ross was literally interviewing Amanda, sampling her tiny pies. Had I arrived a few minutes early, there might have been pie left. But, I did get to sample the cinnamon pie poppers, oh my! (be sure to check out the tiny mason jar pies. Amanda delivers).

And, of course, one of my very favorite pastry chefs in town, Melissa Brinkcmann of Cake & Spoon.  First met Melissa’s buttermilk tart at Franklin’s BBQ, immediately wrote to her and we then met at the Republic Square Farmer’s Market.  My Oklahoma Thanksgiving pies are hers – great quiches & cinnamon rolls too.

hmm, guess I’m obsessing about pastries because I just today ended my quick diet (5#:5 days). I’ve also recently tried Pie Fixes Everything but maybe I tried a bad batch. Wanna give ’em another try.

.by the way, if you don’t know Marla Camp’s Edible Austin, do yourself a favor and check it out. Also, do Central Texas a favor and purchase a subscription.
