(Community Matters) Arrived NY on the United p.s. Service flight from SF – wow. It’s a fantastic airplane – exceptional caring and feeding, whether first, business or economy plus class (no reg economy).

Immediately upon arrival met up with Brent and his new boyfriend, Noah Gillespie. Super having dinner with those two. We like Noah – a to-be third year law student at George Washington interning in NY for the summer with a masters in econometrics. gotta watch those economists. Brent seems happy and looks fit. So nice to see him after too many months. He’s interning in DC and spending lots of time in NYC

Salt Spring Island

(Community Matters) One of our favorite places in the world – Salt Spring Island, British Columbia

Wish it was possible to swing up to Salt Spring Island for Michele’s book signing tonight which two dear friends are catering (well then also for Saturday market), while still making it to NY for the wedding tomorrow #HousesMadeOfWood&Light

@PatrickGaspard

(Community Matters) Why do I suspect this was meant as a DM to @Messina2012?

@PatrickGaspard: it’s constitutional. Bitches

@PatrickGaspard: I let my scotus excitement get the better of me. In all seriousness, this is an important moment in improving the lives of all Americans.

Politically

(Community Matters) Playbook Facts of Life: “Obama looks like a winner, and you can’t underestimate the subtle impact that has on casual voters. The attack on Obama that has tested best with focus groups – incompetent, in over his head – is now in tatters.”

More Conservative Perspectives

Majority opinion in HCR is a conservative opinion – Chief Justice Roberts

The Commerce Clause exists to determine where the proper scope of federal power ends and state power begins.

(Community Matters) Jack Martin’s Perspective: arguing for generalists: “We don’t yet know the consequences of the move from Gutenberg to Zuckerberg.”

Rush on SCOTUS Health Care Decision

(Community Matters)

We have death panels now.  We have massive taxes, tax increases.  We have taxes on our behavior.

Health Care Reform

(Community Matters)  hard to describe how happy I am about SCOTUS decision. Healthcare reform meant more to me than anything else, even equality in marriage and repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell*. It impacts the lives of so many Americans. The availability of decent health care (not cadillaac) is the mark of an enlightened, civilized society. And, I believe it will increase the commercial competitiveness of American manufacturers and other businesses (which have been subsidizing uninsured health care) and unleash even more innovation (which is sometimes strangled by American’s dependence on existing job health care benefits)

Landed SFO

(Community Matters) Steven’s got a day of work here tomorrow so thought, what the heck, I’ll just join him. More EF work done on airplane than I can ever get done in the office (sorry everyone for all the emails, btw). Date night tonight, dinner at Universal Cafe (one of our favorites).
