South Shore Lady Bird Lake Development

(Community Matters) What if Austinites asked, what would be in the best interest of Austin 25, 50 and 100 years from now, instead of how will this affect me? What if we acted like the families who donated Barton Springs, Zilker Park, Butler Park and the Brackenridge tract? – generosity that helped make Austin what it is today

The more time we spend on Town Lake (& good gosh we love the Town Lake Trail Foundation), the more we realize the responsibility for stewardship all Austinites share.

The families that set aside Barton Springs, Butler Park and so many great Austin landmarks – as well as the Austinites and their families leading the development of Town Lake Trail Foundation, the Hill Country Conservancy, Plaza Saltillo, Chestnut Plaza, AMOA/Laguna Gloria/Art House, Waller Creek Park, the Long Center, and so many other great Austin institutions have made significant personal investments (time, treasure and intellect). Time for the rest of us to do similarly – even if it’s just considering and voting, volunteering, demanding that our elected leaders act responsibly, financially contributing . . . we can each play some small part.
